Where beams, joists, roof trusses, large windows and door frames are required we work in 'green' oak - that is freshly cut oak that will dry once in place. Traditionally all oak used in the construction of a house will have been green, and the resulting shrinkage and opening up of cracks as the timber dries must be regarded as part of the character of the house. On beams particularly we will often use the mouldings and carved detail that we have discovered in our research. We have also used green oak successfully for external work such as pergolas and loggias.
