Timber

We work in all timbers, although the most popular ones are hardwoods including English and European oak, maple, sycamore, cherry, poplar, American black walnut, European walnut and mahogany. It is important to us and our customers that the timber comes from renewable resources and we ensure this is the case.

When oak is used in a period setting, for example in panelling or a staircase, we ensure it is ‘quarter sawn’ as it was in in the 17th and 18th centuries. This is rarely done in modern times because of the waste and expense, but the it brings out the distinctive medullary rays of oak that are such a feature of the timber in pre-Victorian buildings and furniture.
